The new Chairman of the National Council for Civic Education and Democracy (NaCCED), Mr. Joseph Munda Bindi, and team paid a courtesy call on the Right to Access Information Commission (RAIC) on Tuesday, 15th April, 2025. The engagement centered on familiarization and collaboration between the two government agencies.
Welcoming the new NaCCED boss and team, RAIC’s Chairman and Information Commissioner Dr Ibrahim Seaga Shaw explained the mandate of the RAIC and the importance for the two public agencies to collaborate.
“The Right to Access Information Commission has the mandate to facilitate access to information nationwide. The work of RAIC is critical in promoting civic education and making citizens better informed on national issues. So, it is important we [RAIC and NaCCED] collaborate in enhancing our mandates,” Dr Shaw explained as he highlighted several major achievements over the years on access to information, especially under the President Bio dispensation and since he [Dr Shaw] took over in 2018.
The NaCCED chair Joseph Munda Bindi said the courtesy visit is a way to familiarize himself with works of institutions crucial to the work of NaCCED. He emphasized the need for civic education in promoting open governance, stability and cohesion. Mr. Bindi noted that the RAIC is key in the Open Government Partnership (OGP) architecture, assuring more engagements between the two entities.
Pst. Mohamed Sesay, the Western Region Commissioner of RAIC, said both NaCCED and RAIC are pivotal in enhancing good governance and development, saying the importance of both institution cannot be overemphasized.
Hon. Mustapha M. Braima, the Executive Secretary of RAIC, thanked the NaCCED Chair and team for visiting and engaging the RAIC. He wished the new NaCCED boss well in his new national role.
